Christian (Christians)
Islam (Muslims)
Abrahamic Faiths
Judaism, Christianity, & Islam
• GOD
– JEWS: One God, one form (God of Abraham)
– CHRISTIANS: One God, three forms (God of Abraham)
– MUSLIMS: One God, one form (God of Abraham)
• JESUS
– JEWS: Not the messiah or son of God; not resurrected
– CHRISTIANS: Savior, Messiah, son of God; resurrected
– MUSLIMS: Prophet, not the messiah or son of God; did
not die; was not resurrected; will come again at the end
of time to bring Christians to Islam
Judaism, Christianity, & Islam
• SALVATION AFTER DEATH
– JEWS: There is a “world to come” called Olam Ha-Ba.
Some believe that only the “righteous” who obey God’s
laws reach Olam Ha-Ba. Others believe that all reach the
afterlife but the righteous receive a greater existence there
(in paradise, called Gan Eden).
– CHRISTIANS: Paradise (Heaven) is available to all
through the death and resurrection of Jesus. No person
can receive salvation except through the grace of God.
– MUSLIMS: Believers who obey the Quranic laws given
through the Prophet earn salvation in paradise.
Judaism: Messiah &Kingdom
• At the End of Days, God will anoint (choose) a supreme
king to rule over His kingdom (a new Israel) from the
city of Jerusalem. The chosen messiah will not be a
God or the son of God. He will be fully human, a
descendant from the family of King David. His
government will be the central government of all
mankind. All Jews will return to the Holy Land of
Israel. All humans will accept God as the only true God
and Judaism as the one, true faith. There will be an end
to war and suffering and violence in the new creation.
The “righteous” dead will be resurrected to experience
the new creation.
Christianity: Messiah &Kingdom
• Jesus is the messiah (the Christ), the savior and Son of
God. Jesus’ death on the cross saved humanity.
Because human beings are so sinful, they could never
gain salvation on their own. They could never fully pay
for all of their sins against God. So Jesus paid the price
for all humanity. He took the punishment that all
peoples deserve, and then he overcame sin and death
through resurrection. Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection
guaranteed that all may receive salvation in God’s
kingdom. He will come again to judge the living and
the dead (which will be resurrected for judgment) and
will create a new and perfect kingdom.
Islam: Messiah &Kingdom
• God will send a messiah called the Mahdi at the end of
time. The Mahdi will be a descendant of the Holy
Prophet Muhammad, and his name will also be
Muhammad. He will rid the world of oppression and
establish the rule of Islam over all other religions and
peoples. Justice and fairness will exist throughout the
world. Jesus, the prophet, will also return to assist the
Mahdi in the creation of God’s kingdom on Earth.
Jesus will confirm that Islam is the true faith. On the
final day, God will resurrect the dead and judge all
according to their faith and obedience to the laws of the
holy Quran.
