Islam
Islam (Submission to the Will of God)
Muslim (one who submits)
Sharia (the law) is based on the Quran and
the teachings of Mohammad
Quran (Muslim bible)
Mohammad – God’s prophet
Sunni (largest Muslim sect 70 to 90%)
Shias or Shiite (other major sect (10 to 20%)
Jihad (struggle/striving in the way of Allah)
Islam
Represents 3 – 4% of the world’s criminal justice
systems (governments)
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Gambia,
Iran, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Sudan,
Yemen
So
why spend an entire seminar
on such an insignificant % of the
world governments?
Because that is NOT
the Whole Story!
As of 2009, there were about 1.6 billion
Muslims, which = 23% of the world’s
population and it is the fastest growing
religion (only 18% are Arabs).
The CIA estimates that by 2025, 30% of
the world’s population will Muslim,
compared to 25% which will be Christian
(currently #1).
Video Field Trip
This video is put out by a Christian
evangelical group. I am not playing it for
that reason and am comfortable in
showing it because it does not discuss
Christian beliefs.
However, it is the best, most concise
statement of the Islamic population
explosion, so I want you to see it.
Please return after viewing it:

Islamic History
570 – Muhammad born in Mecca
Completed work of Abraham, Moses, and
Jesus, whose messages had been
corrupted. Mohammad is not the center of
Islam – simply the last and greatest
prophet – chosen to correct past errors
610 – 622 ~ Gabriel – Quran
When Mohammad died, dispute over who
new leader should be.
Shiite-Sunni Split
Sunnis,
or mainstream Muslims,
followed chosen leader (75 – 90%)
Shiites followed male family member
(10%)
Few theological differences between
Sunnis and Shiites
Main difference focused on line of
succession to Mohammed
Islam is a NOT a
Radical or Terrorist Religion
Just as some Christians and some Jews
are conservative and others are liberal,
some Muslims are liberal and some are
conservative.
Radicals are more likely to be the more
conservative in any religion.
Of those who are conservative, most are
peace loving and are against those who
use terror in the name of their religion.
Comparison
Being anti-Islam because of terrorists is no
different than looking at statistics and
being anti-poor or anti-African American
because of the number of poor or African
Americans who have committed crimes.
We are talking about a small percentage
who hurting the name of a much larger,
non criminal, non violent group.
So What is the Problem?
The Quran says that Islam will one day
rule the world.
The radicals see the West and Israel as
Satan and believe it is their duty to
conduct a holy war (jihad) against them.
Unlike common criminals, they don’t want
what you have and don’t mind dying.
4 Major Middle-Eastern
International Terrorist Groups
that pose the greatest threat to the United States
Al Qaeda (The Base)
Hezballah (Party of God)
Hamas (Islamic Resistance Movement)
Palestinian Islamic Jihad
•Al-Qaeda widely translated into “The Base” – current and
more correct translation is “the formula” as in the formula
to achieve world domination by fundamentalist Sunni Islam.
•Al Qaeda grew from the Soviet War in Afghanistan (19791989). Its primary architects were bin Laden and Ayman al
Zawahiri.
•Bin Laden, al Zawahiri, and others signed the fatwa
declaring war against “Jews and Crusaders.”
Hezbollah
“Party
of God”, A Lebanese Shi’ite
Terrorist Group
• Hezbollah (Party of God) is a Shi`ite
group of Revolutionary Guards that
originated during the Iranian revolution.
• It is guided by the philosophy of the
Ayatollah Khomeini.
Hezbollah
It went to the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon in 1982
in response to an Israeli invasion of southern
Lebanon.
The group started suicide bombings against the
Israelis and sent suicide bombers against the
U.S. Marine barracks in Lebanon.
The first suicide bomber drove a car to an Israeli
military checkpoint and blew it up. The tactic was
so well-received in the Palestinian community
that other bombings followed.
HAMAS
HAMAS
(Harakat al Muqawamah al Islamiyya – it means courage and
bravery)
A Palestinian Terrorist Group - The Islamic Resistance
Movement (Sunni)

Hamas
Hamas formed in the West Bank in 1987 and is the
Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Hamas is an acronym for Harakat al Muqawamah
al Islamiyya (Islamic Resistance Movement). The
name means courage and bravery.
Current political party controlling the West Bank
Hamas is a political organization sponsoring a military
wing, the Izz el Din al Qassam Brigade.
Aside from legitimate political activity, Hamas engages in
terrorist attacks and suicide bombings.
Recognized in the US and throughout most of Europe as
a terrorist organization.
Other well organized Terrorist
Extremist Groups
Egyptian Islamic Jihad (EIJ)
Abu Nidal Organization (ANO)
Jemaah Islamiva (JI)
Abu Savvaf Group (ASG)

Martyrdom
Allah, the most exalted said, “and so far those
who are slain in the way of Allah, He will by no
means allow their deeds to perish. He will guide
them and improve their condition and cause
them to enter the Garden Paradise, which he
has made known to them.” (Muhammad; 47:46).
Allah the Exalted also said, “and do not speak of
those who are slain in Allah’s as way as dead;
nay they are alive, but you do not perceive.”
(Bgarah; 2:154).
Martyrdom
An Osama bin Laden statement to the Muslim
Brethren
Our youths took note of the meaning of the
poetic verse, “if death is a predetermined must,
then it is a shame to die cowardly” and the other
poet saying, “who does not die by the sword will
die by other reason; many causes are there but
one death.” These youths believe in what has
been told by Allah and His messenger about the
greatness of the reward for the mujahideen
(people doing jihad) and martyr;
Martyrdom
In August, 2001, the American television
channel CBS aired an interview with a Hamas
activist Muhammad Abu Wardeh, who
recruited terrorists for suicide bombings in
Israel. Abu Wardeh was quoted as saying: "I
described to him how God would compensate
the martyr for sacrificing his life for his land. If
you become a martyr, God will give you 70
virgins, 70 wives and everlasting happiness."
