LECTURE 8: School Exposure
Selection
of school is of paramount
importance because school provides first
exposure to formalized education.
Parents should go through the child’s learning
process –it requires an open outlook, a
sensitive approach and conscientious attitude.



Irrespective of the school, parents should
provide the basic and necessary
knowledge of Islam to children.
Parents should be aware of school
curriculum, especially those issues that
are against Islamic teaching.
Parents should be knowledgeable about
what is going on in your child’s life in
school such bullying, racism or any other
offences.


Getting basic understanding of Islam is a
fundamental right for all children born in
Muslim families. As the child grows and
start going to school, parents should look
for Weekend and Evening Schools, where
the child can learn Qur’an, Arabic and
Islamic Studies in an Islamic environment
and Muslim-friendly atmosphere.
Social programs should be arranged to give
our children a sense of belonging. (i.e. day
trips, camps, Umrah)



At the near puberty stage, children
should be discussed openly about
cleanliness and personal hygiene.
Parents should give quality time to
children following the examples of
our Prophet (PBUH).
Parents must avoid head-on
confrontation with their child at any
situation.




Parents should be good listeners.
Children should be engaged in interesting
and enjoyable activities.
Balanced diet, regular exercise and
intelligent games are important to be
inculcated among the young ones so that
they make them a habit of life.
A loving and stable environment at this
stage is absolutely vital.
