What do you have to say or do to be part
of these communities?
Homework – for Tues
Do a poster for a mosque to explain
the 4th pillar of Islam: ZAKAT (duty to
practice charity). Include answers to:
1. What is Zakat & what does the word
mean?
2. How much is it?
3. Why must Muslims pay Zakat?
4. How is the Zakat money spent?
1st Pillar Shahadah –
Declaration of Faith
Go back to your picture of the 5
pillars. Write in “Shahadah –
Declaration of Faith” in the 1st pillar
2. What do you think Muslims might
say that they believe in? Guess and
write your version of a “Muslim
Declaration of Faith”
• To describe what the
Shahadah is (AT1)
• To explain when the
Shahadah is recited
and explain it’s
importance. (L4-5)
• To evaluate why it is
important to declare
faith. (L6)
Listen to the song. Which lines do you think make
up the actual Shahadah?
Ashadu an la ilaha illa illa-ilah,
wa ashadu anna muhammadan rasuloollah.
"I testify that there is
no god but Allah, and I
testify that Muhammad
is the messenger of
Allah.“ x3
a) Speech bubble (clearly!) someone saying the
Shahadah in English.
b) Describe how a person becomes a Muslim.
**Why wouldn’t a Christian say and believe the
Shahadah?
You MUST believe the Shahadah to
be a Muslim.
Reciting this statement three times
in front of witnesses, with full
understanding of what it means, is
all that anyone needs to do to
become a Muslim.
When else do Muslim’s recite the Shahadah?
"There is no God but Allah, and
Muhammad is his messenger.“
Draw a life cycle from birth to
death, & label it .
Add in an extra arrow if
someone converts into Islam.
**Is saying a declaration of
faith a good enough way to
belong to a religion?
Muslims hope
that they will
be the last
words that
cross their lips
before they die.
When a baby is
born the father
will whisper it into
the baby’s ear so
that it is the first
thing it hears.
Teach it to their
children as soon
as possible.
Repeat it several
times each day
between getting
up in the morning
and going to bed
at night.
Write the Shadahah in Moslem
calligraphy
