PUNISHMENT
BUDDHA
- Born in Nepal 2500 years ago- a human
being,who did not claim to be a prophet or a god.
- “Awakened one” (someone who sees things as
they really are)
- Buddha exists in a living mind. (animal,person etc.)
- Supports all living being without exceptions.
- Indian Buddhist scholar Nagarjuna has said:
“There is no one who has not received help from
Buddha.”
PUNISHMENT
• NONVIOLENCE
1. REVENGE is unacceptable (Aking ordered an executioner
to cut off the Buddha's hands, feet, ears and nose. Despite the brutal
treatment, Buddha did not get angry or wish any evil on the king. )
2. Uprooting craving is the main cause of suffering.
3. First moral is to abstain from killing
PUNISHMENT
• KARMA
- Person’s faith and actions will be sorted out by
natural process of the universe. (not by people)
- Buddha warned his followers about that.
- Harsh concequences ( death of a loved one, going mad)
- Either in this or in a subsequent life
PUNISHMENT
• JUSTICE
- Suffering – outcome of greed and hatred
- Purpose is to instruct- teach a lesson
- Never for revenge
