TO:
Engineer Xyz Gaia
RE:
Proposal to Reconstruct Laiban dam
Our contacts fully endorsed you to investigate the geologic history of the area
between Tanay, Rizal and Nakar, Quezon before the city builders of Quezon
Province start reconstruction of the Laiban dam. This place has an important
geologic landmark as stated in the documents. Attached herewith are the
senate resolution, topography and soil formation, map, and pictures of the area.
Your task is to determine what will be the impact in the landmark once
construction pushed through and to make a scale model complete with a impact
report about what could happen to the area in the future.
Respectfully yours:
Mr. Lex Ignacio

You must present your findings by:
 creating a pop-up booklet that will show the
layers of the Earth, its physical characteristics
and important data;
 explaining in your scale model the impact
that will be caused by the reconstruction of the
Laiban Dam. It should include the effects before,
during and after reconstruction of the Laiban
Dam;
 as an addition, you may propose plans to
ensure public safety.
You will show your pop-up booklet to a small
audience of peers and justify your decisions of
pushing through or not with the rebuilding of the
dam.

Today we are going to begin a study of the LAYERS OF THE EARTH. Complete the first part of the chart (know) by writing
what you know already about the topic. After you have finished this section, open your reference materials and quickly scan
it. Use the information you learned from the notes to complete the second section (want to know). Write also how you will
find a way to know what you want to know in the third box. You will complete the last section at the end of the module. You
only have 15 minutes for this worksheet.

Brainstorm with your assigned team to answer this worksheet. Use this compare/contrast organizer to explore analogous as
well as non-analogous characteristics of two concepts to the topic of LAYERS OF THE EARTH. You and your team only
have 20 minutes to answer this part. So good luck and try not to waste time.

 Again, group yourselves with your assigned team. Use the notes that you have gathered as you were
reading the different websites. Using your notes , describe the relative temperature and composition of each
layer of the Earth.

What is it made up of?
Ideas that can add in the
reconstruction of the Laiban dam
Are you ready for your
?
Meet with your team to discuss the
necessary materials for the next activity.
Art materials, cartons / illustration
board, glue, markers, coloring
materials.
Brainstorm also on how to create a
that describes each layer
of the earth.
In this project, your team will visualize the Earth's
crust (lithosphere), mantle, and core. You will work
in groups to research and design a booklet of
the Earth's layers. You will also include in your plan
a portion of how deep into the earth you need to
dig up for the reconstruction of the Laiban dam.
Read the Rubrics on the next
slide.
Rate your team’s performance
by checking which of the
categories (vertical column) you
think your group excelled per
criteria
(horizontal
column)
during your project making.
Place your score on the right
side column under TeamRating.
Be reminded that your teacher
will also rate you during your
lab activity and your team-rating
will be compared to his.
