G’day mates! We just got back from Oz (Australia). We
learned a lot of facts. Read my scrapbook to see what we
learned.

Australia is the smallest continent.
Most Australians live near the ocean.
Australia is the only continent that is also a country.
The middle of the land is called the outback.
Australians call their big farms stations, some are as big as
Massachusetts!
The Map of Australia
• The capital of Australia is
Canberra.
• The most famous beach is
Bondi Beach.
• Australia has six states and two
territories.
• There is a island called
Tasmania, it is beside the
Tasman sea.
The Commonwealth Blue Ensign
• The Australian flag’s official
name is The Commonwealth
Blue Ensign.
• The British Flag, called the
Union Jack, is in the upper left
hand corner.
• The big white star stands for the
states and territories.
Facts About Aborigines
• The Aborigines believe the
earth was created during a time
they call the “Dreamtime” by
ancestral beings.
• The Aborigines have been
living on the earth for over
40,000 years.
• They share stories about the
“Dreamtime” through art.
• Aborigines are native (or the
first) Australians.
Katherine Gorge
• Katherine Gorge is located in
The Northern Territory (the
park it is located in is Nitmiluk
National Park).
• The Katherine Gorge has cliffs
on each side that rise up to 100
meters.
• Katherine Gorge is one of the
best known features in The
Northern Territory.
• Oh, by the way, there are some
freshwater crocodiles.
•Rock Art
• Rock art is a type of art that has
been around for 40,000 years.
• Most of the art contains mimi
spirits.
• Aborigines believe that the
mimi spirits helped create the
earth.
Bark Art
• Bark is a type of aboriginal art
usually done in x-ray style.
• The pictures are of animals and
they are done on prepared
eucalyptus bark.
• The x-ray style includes the
body cavities, internal organs
and the skeleton.
Aboriginal Dot Art
• Dots are used to paint Dot
Art.
Most pictures have animals.
• Icons are things that
represent things like mimi
spirits, animals, and many
other things in the story.
•Goanna
• The goanna lives in
Australia.
• It crawls around on the
ground to move.
• They eat small animals but
mostly rodents.
• The goanna has very small
scales.
• They are 20cm.(8cm.
