My life

The early years
 bang
 An oxygen atom
smashes into 2 atoms
of hydrogen
 And Just like that, I am
born
Precambrian
 I looked around.
 I see a bunch of others like me. I’m in
very good company.
 We are moving around and I did not
know where I would be from one
moment to the next. Land masses
everywhere.
 Suddenly it got really hot as a volcano
erupted under me. This gave us energy to
become vapor and we rose into the sky.
 We rose higher and higher, until we
met cold air.
 We wanted to return to the ocean,
so we gave our heat to the cold air,
and became liquid again.
 And we were rain falling back into
the ocean .
Paleozoic
We did this countless times.
Even though we were separated many times, I
always joined the millions of other water
molecules that made up the ocean.
Soon, the land mass broke up and started
moving apart.
I noticed that the simple
soft bodied animals that
lived in us were joined by
larger animals.
Most of them still lived in
water, but some of them
like the amphibians and
reptiles were now
sometimes going on
land.
Mesozoic
 It was strange as I had not changed.
Sometimes some substance was added
to me but I did not grow, nor was I ever
destroyed.
 I simply changed form. I looked different.
I acted differently.
 It was something called heat energy. It
came near me, and then I became liquid
again.
 Once I looked up from my place in the
lake, and saw a a giant head . I was
scared. I found myself being sucked into
a mouth with fierce teeth, passing
through a dark tunnel, and landing in a
dark cave. I was mixed with chunks of
meat and sloshed around. After some
time I passed through another dark tunnel
and the meat was no longer there, only a
lot of other kinds of molecules: NaCl, and
C, O, N, & H in various combinations.
 After a while, I suddenly found myself
falling. It was light and I was extremely
glad to be outside.
 I realized that I had passed through the
body of a dinosaur!
 I lay on the ground for some time. Soon I
found myself being energized by the sun,
and I rose in the sky, leaving NaCl, and
the other compounds behind.
 I became water when I reached the
higher altitude, and fell down as rain and
returned to the lake where I had started
my journey.
Cenozoic
 I have seen the evolution
of birds and mammals. I
have also been a witness
of the progression of man
from a caveman to the
modern man. I have
seen it all!! But I have not
changed.
I have seen the evolution of
all kinds of life through the
ages. In fact life could
not exist without me.
2009
 I stand before you today, exactly the
same as I was since I was created, a part
of the exact same number of water
molecules since the first life forms crawled
out of the ocean!
 Use me carefully, because though I am
75% of the earth’s crust, humans can only
use only 1% of all the water on earth.
