Strange and Unusual Plants!!
Most plants make their food during
Photosynthesis and normally get water
and nutrients from the soil.
However, some plants have other
methods of survival.
These plants are called:
Parasitic, Epiphytic, and Carnivorous
Plants.
Parasitic Plants
• Parasitic plants attach themselves
onto other plants called hosts. They
steal the hosts nutrients and
mineral supplies.
–Examples of Parasitic
Plants:
»Dodder Plant
»Giant Rafflesia Plant
»Ghost Orchid
Epiphytic Plants
• Epiphytic plants also live on
hosts, but they do so only to be
closer to the sunlight. These
plants generally live on a host’s
branches or stem.

» Strangler Fig
» Epiphylis Plant
» Staghorn Fern
Carnivorous Plants
• Carnivorous Plants get their
nutrients by capturing small
animals and insects in their leaves.
They digest these insects by
secreting special juices from their
leaves. Or use bacteria or fungal
processes.

• 2. Make a “Wanted” poster on a sheet of white construction paper.
• 3. Poster must include:
