What Are Mummies?
Mummies are humans and animals whose skin
and organs have been preserved for a long time
in chemicals like salt. All the bacteria's and
germs eat away at the soft tissue, leaving only
bones and a really thin layer of moist skin
behind.
Why did the Egyptians mummify the
dead?
The ancient Egyptians believed that when
someone died, their soul left their body. The
soul would then return and be reunited with the
body after it was buried.
Mummified Animals
The ancient Egyptians would mummify animals
after the death of its owner so the animal would
join him/her. The types of animals that they
mummified was bulls, cats, dogs, fish,
crocodiles, rodents, monkeys, jackal, snakes and
even insects.
