Keep it Clean Aberdeen:
Fact Sheet 1
Your Health is in Your Hands
Keeping our hands clean is one of the most important things we can do to
avoid becoming sick and spreading germs. It prevents the spread of bacteria
that can cause many different illnesses, from the common cold to deadly
diseases. The crucial importance of hand washing is now acknowledged
globally on World Hand Washing Day each year on May 5th .
Our Keep it Clean Aberdeen Fact Sheet series illustrates Aberdeen’s long
history of demonstrating the importance of hand washing and infection
prevention. There are 5 Fact Sheets, including this one, about:
3. The identification
of the bacteria
contributing to
MRSA by the
Aberdeen surgeon,
Sir Alexander
Ogston
4. The businessman
“Soapy Ogston” &
his contribution to
the soap
manufacturing
industry
5. The role of poor
hygiene and
cleanliness in the
spread of typhoid
in Aberdeen in
1964
See if you can find all the Keep it Clean Aberdeen Fact Sheets at the May
