The *Main* Way People Can Affect The
Forest
The forest was
filled with large
Spruce,
Hemlock, White
oak, and other
popular trees.
They were really
attractive to
logging interests
which turned
into lumber.
At first lumbering was
slow. Between 1880
and 1920 most of all
the West Virginia
forests were logged.
That means less trees
and plants to support
the organisms. That is
the main way people
can affect the forest.
