Reproduction
a process whereby living things produce
more living things
All living organisms need to do it!!
Asexual
Reproduction

Just one parent
involved
 Offspring identical-no
diversity
 Many microscopic
organisms reproduce
in this way
5 types of asexual reproduction
 1)
Binary Fission
 2) Spore Formation
 3) Budding
 4) Vegetative propogation
 5) Regeneration
Binary fission
*is the normal method of reproduction
among bacteria.
*It means splitting into 2 EQUAL new
organisms.
Spore Formation
 Forming
of spores that passes on genetic
information
 Some Plants and fungi do this
 Molds also reproduce this way
Budding
A
miniature version of an organism grows
off of the adult organism and eventually
falls off and is genetically identical to the
parent
 There is an unequal distribution of
cytoplasm
 Hydra’s do this
 yeast
Vegetative propagation
 When
part of a plant is cut off and new
roots form.
 The new plant is genetically identical
Regeneration
 When
a piece of an organism can grow
into a new whole organisms
 Starfish or sea stars do this
