Grade Recommendation: 10-12
Bacteria are everywhere, from in our intestines, to miles
under the ocean. But, what are these microscopic
creatures and how do they affect our lives? In this activity
students will research and present information on bacteria,
antibiotics and antibiotic resistance. These are important
concepts because they will shape how we are treated at the
doctor and how clean we keep our homes. This activity is
for advanced students because of the English skills
required and depth of research and citation.

Grade Recommendation: All Grades
The goals of this project are to gain an understanding of
educational culture in other countries. To accomplish this, the
students must become more aware of their own educational
culture and use the tools provided by APEC to learn more
about schools from other countries. Education cultures of
students in other countries will be compared and contrasted
to your own, and the exchange of ideas and experiences will
be emphasized. Appreciating and understanding cultural
differences around the world is the most significant objective
for this international collaborative learning project.

We live on a large planet that has different weather patterns
across it. At the same time of the year, the weather in
Australia can be much different than the weather in
Minneapolis or Japan. APEC Cyber Academy is a great
opportunity for students to learn about how the weather is
different across the part of the planet known as the Pacific
Rim. In this project, students will create web pages that
discuss the climate in their region, and will report on their
weather observation. Students will also report on severe
weather and natural disasters that can occur in their region
and come up with a preparedness plan.
