The Food Cycle
Decomposers
 Consists mainly of Bacteria and Fungi
 They break down dead matter into gases
 Like Carbon and Nitrogen
 These are absorbed into the air, soil, or
water
 They are important so that dead matter can
be broken down for producers
 Scientific name is saprophytes.
 I.E. Mushrooms, and single cell bacteria
Producers
 These are all green plants
 They produce their own food
 Known as the Photosynthesis
 Harness the sun to produce this process
 Scientific name is autotrophs.
 It is a very important part of the life cycle
 I.E. trees, lawn plants, grass, shrubs, etc.
Consumers
 These are every organism that
can eat something else
 Scientific names include – herbivores,
carnivores, parasites, scavengers
 Primary Consumers – herbivores
 Eat Producers
 Secondary Consumers – carnivores
 Eat herbivores
 Tertiary Consumers – parasites,
scavengers
 Eats left over and carnivores
The Sun
 All different parts to the food cycle
utilize the sun
 It provides energy to all living things
on the planet
Human Affect
 When we spray pesticides
 When we hunt to extinction
 Both of these break part of the chain
and could ultimetly affect everything
above them.
