White Blood Cell
Review
NEXT
• White Blood Cells help fight off
infection.
• Two categories of white blood cells:
• Granulocytes – have granules in the
nuclei
– Neutrophils, Basophils, and
Eosinophils
• Agranulocytes- don’t have granules in
the nuclei
– Lymphocytes and Monocytes
NEXT
• The Battle for your body has begun.
• General Leukocyte needs your help.
• Various bacteria, allergens, viruses, and
parasites are attacking!
• Your mission will be to pick the correct
white blood cell to attack the infection.
NEXT
A bacteria has found an open scratch. Call
out the first responders! These are the
most common of the white blood cells.
Once they reach the site, they immediately
begin to eat away at the bacteria.

A parasite has invaded. The Neutrophils can’t
fight it alone. Send for reinforcements. These
granulocytes are the masters of taking out
parasitic worms.

It is spring and the plants are blooming. The
body just inhaled some allergens. The
Neutrophils need some help responding. Which
white blood cell releases histamine in response
to an allergen invading the body?
A.Monocyte
B.Lymphocyte
C.Basophil

It seems a flu virus has invaded. It is time to pull
out the heavy artillery. These cells respond with
the Neutrophils and attack viruses and bacteria
directly. They also make their own weapons with
a memory to attack if a virus or bacteria returns.

You are healthy again after all those attacks, but
what a mess! Time for the clean up crew. They
travel from the blood to the site, get larger and
start eating. Once they leave the blood, they
change their name to big eaters and eat all the
debris and infection still remaining.
A.Neutrophil/Newton body
B.Monocyte/Macrophage

I hope this game was a fun practice for the quiz.
