Response to
Instruction &
Intervention
RTII
What is RTII?
• Response to Intervention and
Instruction or (RTII) is a
highly effective approach to
help identify students at risk
and work with all students to
ensure their educational
success.
• RTII is designed to specifically
i
target students for whom the
regular reading curriculum
reading series is not enough by
adding supplemental instruction.
• RTII provides systematic data
collection for all students.
Why Are We Doing
RTII?
• Our mission is to
provide an appropriate
intervention for all
students.
Benefits
• RTII will reduce the time a
student waits before he
receives additional instructional
assistance.
• RTII can help ensure that
students receive appropriate
reading instruction.
Data Collection
• DIBELS Next testing 3 times
a year.
• Progress monitoring of Tier II
& III students monthly.
(Regrouping may occur).
• Star Testing each marking
period.
Tier I
(Most Students)
• Core Curriculum
–Basal Reading Series
–Leveled Readers
–KidWriting (Kindergarten)
• Benchmark Activities
Tier II
(Data determines need for supplemental
small group instruction)
• Early Reading Intervention (ERI)
• Approaching Leveled Readers
• Read Naturally
• Triumphs
• Soar to Success
Before or after school remediation
is recommended.
Tier III
(Data determines need for
intensive supplemental
instruction)
• Early Reading Intervention (ERI)
• Soar to Success
• Read Naturally
• Approaching Leveled Readers
After Tier III intervention,
if the student shows limited
or no progress, he/she is
referred to a Child Study
Team (CST).
RTII in a Nutshell
• Continuous movement within tiers
as driven by data.
• RTII model recognizes one size
does not fit all.
• Additional varied instruction.
• All students are part of the
model.
