What is E.Coli
E.Coli a bacteria that is
found in the gut of warm
blooded animals
It was discovered in
Germany by a man named
Theodore Escherich in
1885
It is a cylinder shaped
bacteria that affects the
kidneys
Most E.Coli is harmless
with the exception of
serotype 0157:H that
could be life threatening
How you get E.Coli
People get E.Coli from contaminated tap water,
ground beef, unpasteurized milk, and contact
with other animals that carry the bacteria
Symptoms of E.Coli
Adults usually heal from E.coli poisoning but,
children and elderly could have kidney failure
Symptoms occur within a week of contact
Symptoms include: abdominal pain, diarrhea,
nausea, vomiting, fever and fatigue
Prevention of illness
Properly cook beef
Don't consume any
unpasteurized milk
Wash vegetables
before use
Keep already
prepared foods away
from raw meat
Wash hands
thoroughly
