Microban is the global leader in antimicrobial protection
• Formed in 1988 in the US, using technology in invasive
medical products, e.g. surgical drapes, catheters, etc.
• Today Microban is an International business, with 150
partner companies and more than 750 different products
available
• The Microban antimicrobial ingredient is ‘built-in’ to
consumer, industrial and medical products all around the
world
• Microban is now working in partnership with Armacell
International GmbH

Facts about bacteria
On an unprotected surface, bacteria can double every 20 minutes
In half a day 1 bacterium can multiply into 1 million
There are more bacteria on a human hand than the population of
the world
All bacteria need to multiply quickly is a food source, moisture,
warmth and time
Harmful bacteria is the common cause of illness, odour, staining
and product deterioration

Armacell working with Microban
Armacell has worked with Microban since 2006, when it
introduced the first elastomer insulation material with
antimicrobial protection in the United States.
Due to the increased awareness about the importance of
indoor air quality, the product quickly became a success
and is specified today in many projects for schools,
hospitals, colleges, etc.
After its roll-out with great acceptance in the UK and
Indian markets, Armacell is now for the first time offering
the Armaflex with Microban antimicrobial protection to the
European market.
Armaflex insulation with Microban - an added advantage
for HVAC systems in public buildings
AF/Armaflex with Microban antimicrobial
product protection: an added level of
protection against mould and mildew
Insulation on Air Conditioning and Ventilation
systems in public areas often have a high risk of
microbial growth - therefore the addition of
Microban antimicrobial product protection
provides an added level of defense against the
growth and transference of harmful microbes
such as mould and mildew across public areas
such as schools, hospitals and shopping malls;
minimising the risk of cross-contamination.

This information is based upon standard laboratory tests and is provided for comparative purposes to substantiate antibacterial
activity for non-public health applications. Microban technology is not designed to replace good hygiene practices or protect users
from disease causing microorganisms. Antibacterial action limited to product surface.
Microban in AF / Armaflex
The MICROBAN® active ingredient is incorporated into the resin mix
at the start of the manufacturing process
It is evenly distributed throughout the matrix of the product
It protects across the entire surface - even hard to reach areas
The active ingredient will not wash or wear out. It lasts for the lifetime of
the insulation
The Microban technology within AF/Armaflex is BUILT-IN, it is not a surface
coating
AF/Armaflex proven effective
AF/Armaflex with Microban
antimicrobial protection has been tested
according to ASTM G21 and ASTM 1338
The photograph above is of a Microban treated sample
showing a zone of inhibition around the sample. This
shows that mould and fungi are unable to grow in proximity
to or on the surface of the Microban treated sample.
