INTRODUCING ACETIC ACID
• CH3COOH or C2H4O2
• Acetic acid has a distinctive sour
taste and pungent smell.
• Although it is classified as a weak
acid, concentrated acetic acid
is corrosive and can attack the
skin.
IN DAILY LIFE
Vinegar is roughly 4%8% acetic acid by
volume.
It is used in
pickles
production.
In households, diluted acetic acid is
often used in descaling
agents(chemical substance used to
remove limescale from metal surfaces
in contact with hot water, such as in
boilers, water heaters, and kettles).
IN INDUSTRY
• Mainly used in the production of cellulose acetate for photographic film,
• Polyvinyl acetate for wood glue,
• Synthetic fibers and fabrics.
• In the food industry; used as an acidity regulator (acidity regulators are food
additives added to change or maintain pH acidity or basicity),
• Condiment.
Acetic acid is also used for disinfect and
avoiding of bacteria due to the reason
that it is an acid which has properties of
being corrosive and caustic.
