Reducing your
Carbon Footprint
Blake Colyer
What is a Carbon Footprint?
“The total amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and
indirectly support human activities, usually expressed in equivalent
tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).”
What increases your Carbon Footprint?
Driving a Car
Heating your home
Buying imported food and other goods- it takes energy to produce
and transport the goods
Running your dishwasher and other appliances
CO2 Emissions
The U.S is estimated to spend $2.104
trillion on imports, while China is
estimated to spend 10 million a year.
China imports much less and has a much
lower carbon footprint. Importing goods
requires millions of tons of fuel from
transporting the goods using planes,
boats, and trucks. Supporting locally
grown produce not only helps local
farmers but also reduces your Carbon
Footprint
How to Reduce your Carbon
Footprint
Become a Vegetarian
- An all vegetarian diet can reduce your carbon footprint
by about a ton.
Buy organic, locally grown, use reusable water
bottles and drink your own tap water if safe

use
Turn down the heat
- Turning down the central heating by just 1-2 degrees can decrease your
heating bill by 8% as well as reducing your energy consumption
Use timers on your thermostat and lights
-The heating and lights wont be accidently left on all day when no one is
