Session Objectives

Understand how to publish a website on a website
Overview





To upload your website to a server you need to use an
FTP (file transfer protocol) client,
An FTP client allows you to copy files from your
computer to your folder on the web server,
Most use drag and drop so its just look copying files
from a fixed disk to a flash drive!!
You will need to log into the server before transfer can
begin.
Your teacher will provide you with a username and
password for the computech server.
Using FTP In IE

Windows has a built in FTP client – to access:



type the FTP address of the web server or download and
double click on the short,
when prompted for a user name and password use the
name
different versions of windows behave differently at this point


previous versions of IE should show your files and folders and you
can simply drop files from your local machine to your server space
in IE7 you need to go to page > open FTP site in Windows Explorer.
Your files and folders will then show in a different window and you
can simply drop files from your local machine to your server space
Drag and drop files
from local wwwroot
folder to one on the
web server
