What is an information
system?
INFORMARE (Latin): to give shape or form.
A simple model:
Input: capturing or collecting raw data
resources.
Processing: converting raw input into a more
appropriate and useable form.
Output: transferring this processed information
to the people or activities that will use it.
Data vs. Information
Data are any raw facts or observations that
describe a particular phenomenon.
Information is data that has been converted
into a meaningful and useful context for
specific end users.
All Information is Not Equal
Three Dimensions of Information:
1. Time
2. Content
3. Form
