Project Expectations
Learning to create web sites
 Learning more about other programs
 Being able to share what I learned
with students and other staff
 Creating a student usable web site to
give students methods to use while
doing research projects

Actual Learning

I learned how to make a web site and
gained a desire to learn more about other
programs to create web sites.
 I became more familiar with PowerPoint.
 I became more familiar with searching the
internet.
 I was able to help students use the web
and make PowerPoint presentations.
Successes
A web site that actually functions
 Interest from the staff
 Student made PowerPoint
presentations that showed their
research using the web
 Interest from the students

Shortcomings
Frustrations getting some things to
work on the web
 Not knowing why things did not work
 A shortness of time to work with the
students
 Trying to apply measurement that is
not subjective on a subjective
learning situation

Student Data

To measure student growth, I had the
students fill out a pre-plan form explaining
how they thought their research project
would be completed.
 After they completed the project I asked
them to fill out a post-plan form explaining
how they did complete the project.
 I assigned points for understanding of the
research process and compared the
answers from the two forms.
 I also gave points for the PowerPoint
project: completeness, use of words and
pictures, use of sources.

Reflections and Revisions

In reflection this was too great a project to
attempt without the students knowing
basic computer skills. I spent too much
time teaching the skills and not enough
helping with the research skills.
 In the future we are set up for the training
of skills prior to the actual research
project. (more computers and more time
planned to learn the skills)
Conclusion

Basic research skills using
technology are important to today’s
student. The standards-based
lessons will help push toward the
integration of technology in today’s
schools.
 “To teach in the system of the future, educators
will need more than just a few professional days
devoted to technology use; they will need to
make a significant shift in their paradigms for
teaching and learning. This means new roles for
teachers. We must recognize that the traditional
system has been set up to prepare students for a
world that no longer exists. We must embrace
the fact that massive ongoing retraining for
educators is absolutely essential if schools are to
be made relevant to the needs of our students”
