What is mobile learning?
Mobile learning, or m-learning, is learning
that can happen at any location using
technology that you can take with you. You
could be m-learning at home, on the bus or
on an outdoor worksite.
In your TAFE course you may be involved
in mobile learning activities such as:

podcasting

vodcasting (video podcasting)

moblogging (mobile blogging).
Mobile technologies
Here are some examples of mobile devices:
Mobile phone
Laptop with wireless connection
Personal digital
assistant (PDA)
iriver and iPod (MP3 players)
Podcasting
A podcast is a digital audio recording made
available on the internet for you to download to
your computer and transfer to your MP3
player/iPod to listen to at your leisure.
Many podcasts are like a regular program on the
radio – they have daily or weekly episodes.
To avoid missing an episode they use special
software that lets you subscribe to and download
recordings regularly and automatically through
what’s called a web feed (sometimes called
RSS).

Learning with podcasts
Some ways that you may use podcasting in your
TAFE course are:

download missed lectures and interviews
from experts to their iPods or MP3
players and listen to them at a time and
place that suits you

vision impaired students can access
learning materials through audio files

record your own podcast as a reflective
journal or even as an audio assessment.
Vodcasting
Vodcasting is the video version of
podcasting (which is audio only). It is
sometimes called 'video on demand'.
A vodcast is a video with voice, photos,
images and even music. It is provided as a
file ready for you to download to your
computer and transfer to a portable device
like a mobile phone, video iPod or personal
digital assistant (PDA).
Just like podcasts, many vodcasts allow to
you subscribe to them using a web feed so
that you never miss an episode.

Moblogging
A blog is a web log, an online personal
journal. Moblog stands for 'mobile blog'. It
is a visual diary where you can remotely
upload photos and text from a mobile
device like a mobile phone, video iPod or
personal digital assistant (PDA).
Just like blog you can subscribe to a moblog
so you never miss a posting.
