What is Respondus?
Respondus is a time saving application that
allows you to import and then publish
questions from a document, such as a Word
or a text (.txt) file, directly into the
Test/Survey tool in ELMS (powered by
Blackboard).
Getting Started



Respondus is licensed by OIT, and is free to
faculty and staff.

(avoid using IE 8; instead try Firefox, IE 7, Safari,
Chrome)

After installing, use the license information
and code to register the software
Prepare Your Questions

File formats
◦ .doc, .docx, .txt, .rtf

Images and text formatting
◦ Word (.doc, docx) files accept inserted images
and text formatting
◦ Text (.txt) and Rich-text (.rtf) files require HTML
code

Give an initial try-out quiz
Give students quiz taking tips:

Offer to drop one or two quizzes
Reward students for not having problems (eg,
bonus points, skip a quiz)
Do not use the “Force Completion” setting under
the Modify button.
