Catherine Borshuk received a Faculty Research Grant to plan
a study abroad trip to Canada.
Catherine was also named a UCET fellow for spring/summer
2017 to complete a project: “Fostering Conversations about
Justice, Equality and Inclusivity in the Classroom”
Political Science
Elizabeth Bennion was highlighted in an
article featured in the Chronicle of Higher
Education: “How Colleges Can Teach
Students to Be Good Citizens”

McKenzie Tozan’s “seriously therapeutic, mother-daughter allegorical
Trump poem” is included in "The Last of 2016" issue of Thank You for
Swallowing. It is titled “My Dream Post-Election Day.”
McKenzie also had another poem accepted: “Timetable” will be
published in the February edition of Rogue Agent.

Joe Chaney’s poem, “Bali Dog,” was published in
the Fall issue of Stoneboat.
Kyoko Takanashi’s essay, “Mediation, Reading,
and York’s Sentimental Vehicle,” appeared in
NOVEL: A Forum on Fiction.

John Chapman had two poems (written in David's poetry workshop)
accepted to Blue River:
"Six incidences during which people engaged in gender politics...”
(nominated for a Pushcart!) and "For all the Brians who were never
born”
Lee Kahan’s article, “Manley’s New Atlantis and the Problem of Mass
Mediation in the English Enlightenment,” appeared in the Winter 2016
issue of The Eighteenth Century: Theory and Interpretation

Kelcey Ervick was a panelist at the Chicago Book Expo in December,
where she delivered this talk: "Beyond the Lines: Comics, Animation,
Collage, and Re-Imagining the Book"
Kelcey’s collage series, "no other story in the world was more
authentic,” was published in Ilanot Review
Sociology & Anthropology
Kelsey Myers successfully defended her dissertation with the
Department of Anthropology at IU Bloomington in December.
Solaiman Fazel gave two talks: “Research in Conflict Zone:
Ethnohistory in Kabul” during International Education Week and
“Thinking about Graduate School in the Field of Anthropology.” Both
talks were here at IUSB,

Kathi Piekarski and Paris were invited to
attend the first ever stress relief event for
students at Southwestern Michigan
College.
Women’s and Gender Studies
Andrea Rusnock has been elected to the College Art Association
Education committee
Physics
Rolf Schimmrigk published a single-author paper in the Journal of High
Energy Physics: "A general framework of automorphic inflation."
Math
Peter Connor had a paper published in the Mathematical Journal of
Okayama University: “A note on balance equations for doubly periodic
minimal surfaces.”
History
Jonathan Nashel won the IU South
Bend Alumni Association Legacy
Award.
Monica Tetzlaff published an
article in the South Bend Tribune:
“Viewpoint: Time to hold lead
companies responsible.”
