Symptoms
•Digestive Symptoms – intestinal
blockage, poor weight gain and
height growth
•Respiratory Symptoms –
coughing, wheezing, repeated
lung infections, and repeated
sinus infections.
Treatments/Cures
There is no exact treatment
for Cystic Fibrosis, each
patients treatment may vary
between different airway
clearance techniques to
loosen and get rid of mucus
from the lungs.
Inheritance Pattern
•Cystic Fibrosis
is inherited in
an autosomal
recessive
pattern.
•Both copies of
the gene in
each cell have
mutations
Type of Mutation
• It is on the 7th chromosome
Life Limitations
• Cystic fibrosis does not limit your life in
any way or impair you from doing certain
things.
– About 2,500 babies are born with cystic fibrosis in the
U.S. each year.
– More than 10 million Americans carry the cystic fibrosis
gene but don't know it.
Incidence
•Cystic fibrosis is a hereditary
disease which means that
one can only get it if his or
her parents both are carriers.
