Color blindness is a trait
that is passed down from
parents to children in a
unique way that we have
not discussed yet. Color
blind individuals can see
some colors, just not ALL
colors.
If you cannot see the
number in the dots to
the right, you may be
color blind and should be
tested.
What number do you
see in the dots?
A
is a heterozygote
that carries a recessive
gene, but does not
express the trait in his/her
phenotype. This recessive
gene can be passed down
to future offspring.
This pedigree shows how color
blindness is passed down in a family.
What patterns do you notice?
For a
, the 23rd pair of chromosomes is
unique because the X and Y chromosomes do
not contain the same information.
