How do the laws of segregation and
independent assortment affect the
analysis of inheritance patterns?
• Traits are inherited
independently of one another.
– Ex: Just because you have blonde
hair does not mean you will have
blue eyes.
Dominant vs Recessive
• Dominant allele is allele that is expressed
when two different alleles or two dominant
alleles are present (upper case letter= A)
• Recessive allele is allele that is only expressed
when two copies are present (lower case
letter=a)

-no two person's genetic code is exactly the
same which makes DNA fingerprinting a very
useful tool for our modern society.
