Block 2A
Nothing Special takes place in Bluffton
Wisconsin from August 15 to the 20. Felton is an
athlete and has many scholarships lined up for
him. He runs track and is also a football star.
Felton has a girlfriend named Aleah, but when
she is asked to join a youth orchestra in berlin,
Felton thinks his life is over. When Felton gets a
chance to go to football camp he realizes that
Andrew, his little brother isn’t really at camp,
and instead he ran away, so Felton and his
friend Gus go to Florida looking for him.
Protagonist: Felton Reinstein
Antagonist: Andrew Reinstein
Felton: The main character that is going
through a hard time at school and is being a
jerk to everyone close to him.
Andrew: Felton's little brother. He loves Felton
a lot but Felton has been a jerk to him, while
Andrew was always sweet to him.
Gus: He used to be best friends with Felton, but
recently left him because Felton was being
selfish
Aleah: Felton’s girlfriend that is in Germany for
an orchestra camp.

The conflict in the story is a person vs. person. Andrew
has ran away because he felt like he wasn’t wanted, so Felton
and Gus have to go to Florida to try and find him. When Felton
and Gus go to Florida they encounter many obstacles and they
don’t even know where they are going. They don’t know if they
will find Andrew or if Andrew will just be another person they
used to know. They also don’t know if this trip will make Felton
and Gus friends again, or if it would tear them apart even
more.
Roy
Roy Ngalale: he is a track runner that
competes with Felton, and he impacts the
story because when Felton loses to Roy, Felton
becomes more sour.
Maddie: She is Gus’s girlfriend, and she’s
important because she gets Gus into smoking
and she turns Gus against Felton in the
beginning of the book.
Emily Cook: she is Andrew’s best friend, and
she impacts the story because when Andrew
and Emily are supposed to be at camp
together, Emily tells them that he never shows
up.

Critic 1: A summary of this review is that when you have such high
expectations, its hard to live up to them. This is what Andrew is going
through, anyone that can relate to having older siblings with high
expectations would love to read this book. Teenage boys would also
love to read this witty book, that’s filled with humor, drama, and
suspense.

Critic 2: Nothing Special is a follow up to Stupid Fast both written by
Geoff Herbach. Felton went from being just another dork to a football
and track star while his brother just watched him in his glory. When
Andrew runs away to Florida, the suspense, and the humor starts to
come out. Nothing special is a book that everyone should read and it
keeps you guessing.

The book Nothing Special, by Geoff Herbach is a
really good book that has to do with family, romance,
friendship and sports. I would definitely recommend
this book to teenagers because its very relatable and it
was a blast to read. Felton and his chooses kept me on
my toes with every chapter, and I'm looking forward to
reading the last book in the trilogy- I'm With Stupid.
