Why this Rebirth?
• Crusades and Bubonic Plague caused death
and destruction in Europe
– Medieval society very rigid.
– Chaos of the black death shook the
foundations of society.
• Less people = higher demand for their specific
labor and skills = emergence of paid workers
• Same wealth spread among fewer people
