Warm-ups
Warm-ups







The warm-up is an important part to the
lesson.
We do this at the start of a session to get
the mind and body ready for exercise.
This is fundamental to a safe practice.
There are three parts to a warm-up:
1.heart raiser
2.stretch/mobility
3. sport-related activity
Benefits to a warm-up



Warm ups are a crucial part of performance. If
completed correctly they enable the body to
perform at its peak performing ability at the current
time.
It activates the correct energy systems and
prepares the correct muscles, giving increased
range and flexibility, it increases heart rate,
pumping blood and oxygen to working muscles and
takes away lactic acid.
This helps slow down fatigue, so you can last
longer and reduces risk of injury or muscle pull.
Heart raiser







Gradual increase in
physical activity to
raise heart rate.
This includes:
Light jogging
Side steps
Skips
High knees
Kicking behind
Stretches

Stretches help loosen
off the joints so the
performer can have
increased range of
movement. It also
helps warm and stretch
the muscles to help
reduce muscle pull and
fatigue and takes away
the waste product of
lactic acid.
Skill-related exercise


It is important that
warm ups should be
specific to the exercise
that will follow,
therefore you must
start practicing those
skills needed for the
main activity.
This can include
dribbling, passing
shooting drills/games.
Task

In pairs, design your own warm-up to
lead with the whole class. Write this
out on a piece of paper to include;
how your organising the heart-raiser,
what stretches your doing and what
warm-up game/drill your going to do
at the end.

Stretches

Make sure all
participants can see
you and lead a
stretch by telling
them how to do it
and using a
demonstration
(showing them how
to do it).
Skill related practice



Practice the skills of
the game.
Introduce the
movements and
equipment in this
section.
Make sure you write
down at least 3 rules
of your game and
explain how your going
to organise the group.








You could do the
following activities:
King of court
Game of killer
Game of tag
Passing drill
Shooting drill
1v1’s
Good luck!
