Human Excretion
Breathing

What do we get rid of with the
respiratory system?
– CO2
– H2O
– Excess heat
The Liver



-breaks down red
blood cells
Recycles usable
materials
Produces urea
following amino
acid deamination
(nitrogen break
down)
Sweat Glands



Water, salts, and
some urea diffuse
from blood
Excreted in
perspiration (used
for temperature
regulation)
Sweat is 98% H2O
and 2% salt and
urea
Urinary System

Kidneys
– Excretion of most of
urea made in cells
– Control
concentration of
most constituents of
body fluid
Kidney

Nephrons
– Filter and reabsorb blood

Glomerulus
– Filters water, salts, urea,
amino acids and glucose
into Bowman’s Capsule


As materials move through
the tubule of nephron
water, minerals, and
digestion end products are
reabsorbed
Urine is what is left and
then leaves the kidneys
through ureters to the
urinary bladder
Urinary Bladder

Store urine until is
eliminated or
expelled through
the ureturs to the
urinary bladder
Malfunctions


Kidney disease:
Malfunction of the
kidney or nephron
Gout: inflammation
in the joints
associated with uric
acid production and
depostion.
