Dissolve 0.400 g in 50 ml of dilute hydrochloric acid R. Carry
out the determination of primary aromatic amino nitrogen
(2.5.8).
1 ml of 0.1Msodium nitrite is equivalent to 27.28 mg of
C13H21ClN2O2 .

2,6-Dimethylaniline
Solution (a). Dissolve 0.25 g of the substance to be examined in methanol R
and dilute to 10 ml with the same solvent. This solution is used to prepare the
test solution.
Solution (b). Dissolve 50 mg of 2,6-dimethylaniline R in methanol R and dilute
to 100 ml with the same solvent. Dilute 1 ml of the solution to 100 ml with
methanol R. This solution is used to prepare the standard.
Using three flat-bottomed tubes, place in the first 2 ml of solution ( a), in the
second 1 ml of solution (b) and 1 ml of methanol R and in the third 2 ml of
methanol R (used to prepare a blank). To each tube add 1 ml of a freshly
prepared 10 g/l solution of dimethylaminobenzaldehyde R in methanol R and 2
ml of glacial acetic acid R and allow to stand at room temperature for 10 min.
The intensity of the yellow colour of the test solution is between that of the
blank and that of the standard (100 ppm).
