Electronic Prescribing is
here!
A new system has now been
launched
• Its called EPS (Electronic Prescribing
Service)
• Most surgeries are now using this
system (introduced November and
December across North Somerset)
What does it mean to me?
• It means you can ‘nominate’ a
pharmacy and your prescription will
go there electronically every time it’s
ready
• This would mean no more green
prescriptions
• No more coming in to pick it up from
the surgery
• We can track it electronically, so
always know where it is and who has it
• No more “I’m chasing my
prescription”!
• No more “we’re looking for it”!
• No more wasted journeys to collect it
and go to the pharmacy
What about my ‘repeats’?
• The pharmacy you choose will print you
off a white copy of your repeat slip.
• You use this in the same way as the tear
off, right hand side of your green
prescription.
• You can talk to your pharmacy about
signing up to their repeat service where
they order your medication for you in
advance
What else is new?
• You can ask your GP about repeat
dispensing.
• This means we would provide 6 months
worth of prescriptions which you can
collect monthly from the pharmacy
without having to order in advance
(only a GP can authorise this so
please ask your GP)
What are the other benefits?
• More efficient use of surgery
administration time
• More efficient process so should speed
up turnaround time
• More efficient use of GP time (rather
than signing hundreds of prescriptions
by hand every day)
How do I sign up?
• Ask your pharmacist to make them
your ‘nominated pharmacy’…. They’ll
do the rest
• Ask for a leaflet from Reception
• If you have your medication delivered,
your prescriptions will already be
produced using this new system
If I sign up, will I ever get a
green prescription?
• Yes!
• If you are having a face to face
consultation with a GP they will still
give you a green prescription
• If your prescription is for a controlled
drug, such as tramadol, these are not
allowed to go through the Electronic
system so you will still get a green
prescription for these items
Ordering prescriptions over the
phone
• Unfortunately our Receptionists are not able to
accept prescription requests over the phone
• Please bring in your repeat prescription slip
Or
• Order through your pharmacy’s repeat service
Or
• Order on line
Or
• Fill in a request form at reception
AND
• Allow 2 full working days for us to process your
request
