ANTI ADRENERGIC DRUGS
ANTI ADRENERGIC DRUG. ACTION PRODUCED BY THIS DRUG ARE TOTALLY OPPOSITE TO
ADRENALINE OR ADRENERGIC DRUG.
ADRENERGIC DRUG CAN BLOCK IN FOLLOWING
WAYS:
. DRUG CAUSING DEPLETION OF CATECHOLAMINES FROM
VARIOUS BODY TISSUE Eg- RESERPINE.
. DRUG WHICH INTERFERE WITH THE SYNTHESIS IN ADRENERGIC
NERVE OR ADRENALINE GLAND. Eg- METHYL DOPA.
. DRUG WHICH INTERFERE WITH TRANSMISSION OF IMPULSE
ACROSS POST GANGLIONIC NEURON. Eg- GUANETHIDINE.
. DRUGS BLOCKING ALPHA OR BETA RECEPTOR BOTH.
CATECHOLAMINES DEPLETORS
. RESERPINE SHOWS ITS EFFECT BY PREVENTING
THE REPEATED OF ADRENALINE OR NOR
ADRENALINE CAUSING ITS DEPLETION.
. THEREFORE IT CAUSE USE IN HYPERTENSION AND
PSYCHATRICS.
. HOWEVER DUE TO DEPLETION OF CATECHOLAMINES
RESERPINE MAY CAUSE DEPRESSION LEADING TO
SUICIDAL TENDANCY THEREFORE IT IS NO LONGER
USE IN HYPERTENSION.
ALPHA METHYL DOPA
. It prevent synthesis of nor adrenaline by
entering the neurone instead of nor
adrenaline being form alpha methyl
. Nor adrenaline is formed which is inactive
ALPHA AND BETA BLOCKERS
1 ) ALPHA BLOCKERS :
Alpha blockers block the alpha receptor .
They are classified into –
A)Beta haloalkyl amines – eg. Phenoxybenzamine
B) Natural and dihydrogenated ergot alkaloids - eg . ERGOTOXIN
C) Imidazole derivatives – eg. Tolazoline
D) miscellaneous - eg . dibenzazepine
2 ) BETA BLOCKERS :
A)
B)
C)
D)
They blocks beta receptors and are classified into specific beta blockers - eg. Timolal
Beta blockers with membrane stablizing activity – eg. Propranalol
Beta blockers with membrane stablizing activity and inrinsic sympathomimatic
activity - eg. Dichloroisoprenalin
Beta blocker with additional alpha blocking activity – eg . Lebetalol
USES OF ALPHA & BETA BLOCKERS
A ) ALPHA BLOCKER –
1 . Pentolamine is use in the treatment of pheochromocytoma
2 . tolazoline is use in the treatment of peripheral vascular diseases
such as raynaud’s disease
3 . ergotamine is used in the treatment of migraine
B ) BETA BLOCKERS –
1. Hypertention
2 . angina pectories
3 . cardiac arrhythmia
4 . pheochromocytoma
