There are a few reasons why gangs
kill people. Some of which include
punishment, revenge, deterrent
or persuasion, or to serve as an
example. There are probably
many other reasons but most will
fit into one of these four
categories. If one gang offends
another gang, for any reason,
including approaching the others
turf, the gang they offended will
respond violently. The violent
response could be lethal or nonlethal. If lethal action is taken,
they could choose to ambush
people, as in a drive-by or a
shooting. They may kill an
innocent person as an unintentional kill in one of these
ambushes. Then the other gang
may respond by killing someone
from the gang they offended.

Another reason why a gang
may or will kill someone is
because a member wants to
leave the gang. The gang
he/she was in will then be
considered a traitor and can’t
be trusted any longer because
he might snitch. So, when or if
a member decides to leave
they lose all trust. The
member leaving may or will
then be killed before, when,
or after he leaves.
