Introduction to
Square Dancing
What is Square Dancing?
The earliest North American settlers brought
square dancing to the New World. Over the
centuries it evolved into what we know today as
Modern Square Dancing.
Dancers learn the basic steps and movements in
the dance classes. Four couples form a square
and follow the caller’s calls, synchronized to
music.
Where
You Can Dance
• Square Dancing is enjoyed around the world
in many countries such as Japan, New
Zealand, Australia, Germany, The
Netherlands, USA & of course Canada.
• To standardize the dance, it is always called
in English.
