• Pinafore dresses and knit fabrics
• the acceptance of trousers for women
• Man made yarns and innovative materials help
contour styles.
• death of stockings and introduction of pantyhose
• Many clothes abandoned collars
• Day clothes remained simple and colorful
• short boyish haircuts for women

Mary Quant in History
 1966 - Quant received her OBE for her
contribution to the fashion industry.
 Convinced everyone that fashion
needed to be affordable and accessible to
the young
Began a fashion revolution
her business included everything from
carpet to swimsuits to toys
changed the look of women worldwide

clothes were a sure sign of
a woman's social position
and income group… Not
now.”
Mary Quant: A Fashion Influence
o was one of the first to tap into street fashion.
o responsible for hot pants, the Lolita look, the
slip dress, PVC raincoats, smoky eyes and
sleek bob haircuts.
o didn’t invent the mini-skirt but made it a
worldwide sensation.
o Many have said she was the inspiration for
the swinging 60’s.
