Confronting Denial with
Honest Talk
 With a partner read either the “Denial” or
“Honest Talk” section on page D64. Be
ready to report to the class on what it is.
Formal Intervention and
Treatment
 Formal Intervention: People who care
about the drug user will often use
honest talk to try and confront
them and assist them in getting
help.
 It involves family members and
friends.
Treatment
 Inpatient treatment: treatment given to a person
during a stay at a facility.
 Outpatient treatment: does not require an
overnight stay.
 Detoxification: usually the first step, it’s the
physical process of ridding the body of an
addictive substance.
Detoxification
 Should be done under a doctor’s care while
patient is going through withdrawal.
 Often followed by counseling that addresses
mental, emotional and social problems of
drug dependence.
