Confronting Denial with
Honest Talk
With a partner read either the “Denial” or
“Honest Talk” section on page D64. Be
ready to report to the class on what it is.
Formal Intervention and
Treatment
Formal Intervention: People who care
about the drug user will often use
honest talk to try and confront
them and assist them in getting
help.
It involves family members and
friends.
Treatment
Inpatient treatment: treatment given to a person
during a stay at a facility.
Outpatient treatment: does not require an
overnight stay.
Detoxification: usually the first step, it’s the
physical process of ridding the body of an
addictive substance.
Detoxification
Should be done under a doctor’s care while
patient is going through withdrawal.
Often followed by counseling that addresses
mental, emotional and social problems of
drug dependence.
