• Different neurotransmitters relate to different functions.

• Addiction is the physiological need for

• Tolerance occurs when more drug is
needed to produce an effect.
• Drugs might cause desensitization or
sensitization.

leads to more receptors.
When the amount of neurotransmitter
becomes abnormal, the adjacent
