What is a stent ?
• A stent is a tiny mesh tube that looks like
a small cylindrical spring which is inserted
into a natural conduit of the body to
prevent or counteract a disease-induced
localized flow constriction.
• Some stents are coated with
medicamentation to help prevent the artery
from closing again, these are called DES
(drug eluting stents)
Potential Complications of Coronary Stenting:
Restenosis in aTraditional Bare-Metal Stent and
Late Thrombosis in a Drug-Eluting Stent.
Problematic:
How to prevent or limit the late
restinosis and thrombosis?
