Project Summary Revisited
• To design and develop a dry-powder, singledose, disposable inhaler
• To create a prototype that is self contained,
ruggedly constructed, weather and water
proof, lightweight, small, ergonomically
designed, and actively mobile
• To be used by asthmatic individuals that
desire a temporary alternative to traditional
devices during physical activity and/or in
extreme environment settings

Prototype Development
Iterative Design Process
• Create Solid Model
• Perform CFD (COSMOS)
• Physiologic boundary conditions
• Obtain pneumatics within device consistent with
5 m particle aerosolization
• Modify/refine the model
• Re-perform CFD testing
• Continue cycle until acceptable solid model
completed
Prototype Development Summary
• 9 solid models developed
• Initial CFD indicated rotational flow
• Inefficient at dispersing and pneumatically transporting
micron-sized particles
• Due to boundary conditions
• Outlet velocity profile v. outlet pressure
• Proper boundary conditions implemented
• Streamlined flow patterns observed
• Model-8 rapid prototyped through Quickparts

Tasks to be Completed
• Modify physical prototype – Steph will explain
why
• Modify/Finalize Model-9
• Order second Quickparts prototype
• Finish the design report component of the
final deliverable document
• Collaborate with my teammates on
developing the final presentation
• Give the presentation
• Graduate, May 1st
