Food chemistry is the study of the chemistry of foods,
their deterioration and how to improve them for the
public. These chemists study methods of cooking,
freezing and packaging of foods. (And how these
methods affect vitamin content, appearance, taste and
aroma.) These chemists also make sure food and
beverages meet all current safety laws and regulations.

dealing wit the millions of different combinations that
are possible in this area.
What education is needed?

Most food chemists have bachelors degrees in chemistry
and masters degrees in food science. Nearly 50 United
States schools have accredited programs. (Some
include the Universities of Wisconsin, Michigan, and
Iowa.)
How much do food chemists make?
–
Starting salary for food chemists is approximately
$28,000. A masters degree will earn you about $36,000
