The New Drug Patch Treatment
BY, MICHAEL LOVRITY
The Problem
 Microneedle patch technology used on the skin has
existed for several years.
 But the problem is that because of the patch’s rigid
chemical makeup
The patches was not fully penetrated into the skin which
causes a waste of the drug material and a slower delivery
time.
The New Drug Patch
 Lissett Bickford, with her research team
developed a new flexible microneedle patch that
forms to the skin directly.
How It Works
 The nanoparticle, micro-molding patch is developed
based on particle replication in non-wetting
templates technology”
 The new microneedle patch is implanted directly on
the skin for cases such as vaccinations and cancer
therapy.
 Then, the chemicals within the patch are delivered
through the skin with little to no waste.
The Results
 “Softer, more malleable and water-soluble material
that allows for more precise control over the shape,
size, and composition of the patch, with little-to-no
waste.”
 Unlike other methods for making these patches, this
new technology allows for faster and increased widescale production, thus, reducing related costs.
The Benefits
 The benefits of the new drug patch are:
 It’s softer, more malleable, and water-soluble.
 It allows for more precise control over the shape, size, and
composition of the patch.
 The chemicals are being more efficient in cases such as
vaccines and cancer therapy with little to no waste.
 Allows for quicker and greater production with reduced related
costs.
 Unlike the other drug patches, it penetrates fully into the skin.
 And lastly, it increases the delivery time of the chemicals
embedded in the patch.
