Half of the largest establishments (employing
1,000 or more workers) reported an incident of
workplace violence in the previous 12 months.
In these largest establishments, 52 percent
of State government workplaces reported an
incident of co-worker violence.

ALCOHOL DRINKERS HAVE JOBS
SAMHSA’s National Survey on Drug Use and
Health found that roughly 75 percent of
the estimated 16.4 million illicit drug users
ages 18 or older
are employed full or part time

Use of illicit drugs, alcohol abuse, and misuse of
prescription drugs can have negative effects on our daily
lives. And people with drug and alcohol problems are not
likely to leave those problems behind when they come to
work.
SAMHSA’s Drug Abuse Warning Network reported that
of the nearly 2 million drug-related emergency
department visits in 2004, over 25 percent were related
to nonmedical use of prescription and over-the-counter
pharmaceuticals.

In a large study of illicit drug use in
highly educated employees, 42 percent
of respondents reported using moodaltering prescription drugs.
