NEUTROPENIAS
DESCRIPTION
Aplastic anemia-agranulocytosis
Drug- related autoimmune neutropenia
Secondary to other autoimmune disorders
Maternal-fetal neutrophil antigen incompatibility
Antineutrophil antibodies
Probably related to a benign clonal expansion of
large granular lymphocytes
Cause unknown, probably drug related
Drugs as haptens interacting with neutrophils
Lupus eryhematosus, Felty’s syndrome,
rheumatoid arthritis
Infection
Epstein-Barr virus, hepatitus
Direct marrow suppression and/or immune
phenomena
Human immunodeficiency virus
Marrow failure in neonates
Acute endotoxinemia neutropenia
(transient, not a true neutropenia)
Results from overwhelming infection
Acute margination of neutrophils in post capillary
venules from bacteremia
Immune
Alloimmune neonatal neutropenia
Primary autoimmune neutropenia
Acquired cycllic neutropenia
Cytotoxic Drug Effects
Therapy for cancer, immune disorders,
or side effect of other drugs
Direct suppression of progenitors, iatrogenic and
