Thesis
• Drug abuse continues to be a problem
in the workplace.
• Employers, the government, and the
addicts themselves should work
together to seek rehabilitation.
What’s Substance Abuse
• Also known as drug abuse
• A pattern of harmful use of any substance for
mood-altering purposes
• The use of illegal drug or abuse of
prescription drug for other purpose
Background/ Statistics
• In U.S studies, one-third of workers are less
active when they are at work than they are at
work or outside of the workplace because of
drug and/or alcohol abuse .
• Alcohol and drugs have cost U.S. Businesses
way over $81 billion from to lack of
participation.
• 21% of the employees have mention that
their co-workers drug abuse had affected
them.
Survey
• 76% of the workers who have a serious
problem with drugs and alcohol lied when
they were filling of the applications
• 14% of the employees that did a survey, one
had mention that they had to re-fix or do
over the work because of the worker was
drinking and was making to many mistakes

were too distracted and had less potential
working because one of their family
member’s was having problems with their
addiction
Random Drug Testing
• State of Ohio
• U.S. studies shown that abusers are 33%
less active, when they can hurt others or
them at work
• Drug testing had been required in
workplaces on employers for safety reason
Alcohol Abuse
• Drinking at work causes you to arrive to
work late or leaving early
• Ames and colleagues had seen that the
relationship of a hangovers at work and
feeling sick at work, or sleeping on the job
which can cause a problem doing a job task
or employees

• The cause of drinking can be from being
stress out or dull
• The efficiency lost from alcohol was about
$119 billion in 1995
• Employees barely have the knowledge of
the policies that seemed to support drinking

• Drugs can affect the person’s life in many
ways like in health, finances, and stability.
• Those who have misused alcohol changed
employers a lot and 500 million to lose their
jobs.
• Drug abusers at work produce drug dealers
in the workplace.

Rehabilitation
• Drug & alcohol rehab, addiction treatment,
drug rehabilitation programs, and centers in
the United States are working with people
or employees with any abuse
Conclusion
• I have chosen this career because I am
interested in business and I want to own my
own restaurant
• I think that a person can be treated from
abusing any substance that they are on

lose their jobs because of drug abuse.
• Most interesting idea- I’m surprised how
the government spends so much money on
preventing substance abuse.
