NCPIE Adherence Action Agenda
(A3 Project) cont.
Next Steps:
• NCPIE has begun working on an Adherence Action A3 project report;
• Development of a stand-alone comprehensive real-time A3
web-platform;
• Framing an October “Talk About Prescriptions" Month A3Project
launch event for project stakeholders and NCPIE members in
Washington DC.
NCPIE Risk Communications Project
NCPIE has been awarded a collaborative agreement grant from the FDA to
develop and implement a medication risk and drug safety communications
research agenda and educational initiative.
 NCPIE will conduct a national survey of consumers’ and healthcare providers’
knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding medication risk communications.
 NCPIE will extrapolate key finding from the survey research to develop and
conduct and assess a national risk communications campaign through traditional and
social media channels addressing medication risk reduction to promote safe and
appropriate medicine use.
 The research initiative is being conducted with input from the Johns Hopkins
Center for Drug Safety and Effectiveness, (CDSE), a new center jointly supported by
the Bloomberg School of Public Health and Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Risk Communications Project cont.
Ipsos, a national survey company will soon conduct consumer and healthcare
professional surveys reaching out to:
2,000 consumers of age 18 years and older; and
800 healthcare providers, representing pharmacists in community-based retail
settings, and prescribers, including primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and
physician assistants.
The respective surveys will probe issues related to medication risk and safety.
NCPIE will convene a multi-stakeholder project advisory to provide expert guidance
and input on the formulation, implementation planning and assessment of optimal
communications strategies, pathways/channels and educational programs for
communicating essential medication safety and risk information to key target
audiences – including consumers and healthcare professionals.
